Character: Hunk
Age: 18
Canon: Voltron: Legendary Defender
Canon Point: Season 7 Episode 9

Background:
Voltron episode summaries here.

Personality:
Friendly, laid-back, and caring, Hunk is the easiest member of Team Voltron to get along with, quickly befriending the others of the team despite not knowing them for very long. His warm and gentle nature is balanced with cautious logic, often serving as a voice of reason with his friends. When we first meet Hunk, he is a wary, easily nauseated, and worrisome individual. However, his seemingly timid and fearful nature gives voice to a more logical look at things. He often points out the obvious in dangerous situations which helps reminds his friends and teammates that, hey, yeah, this is actually some serious stuff going on!

With meeting the Balmerians, Hunk's overall feelings about being a Paladin begin to shift. Rather than wanting to run away from the responsibilities of being a part of Voltron, Hunk has begun to embrace his new role. He becomes more emboldened to stand, and fight, to protect those who can't necessarily protect themselves.

While he's been shown to try and back out of a troublesome scenario, he usually doesn't fight against it too much, and will follow his friends, supporting them as needed. Although, not without continuing to voice any objections he may have over the decision, or any nervous, anxious thoughts that cross his mind. Hunk is also quite aware of his status of the team scaredy cat. When the team is stranded in the middle of space without their lions, and begin to go "space mad" Hunk admits to how yes, he's a coward, but that it's okay to be that sometimes.

As the Paladin of the Yellow Lion, Hunk is the embodiment of the heart of Voltron, as well as one of the supporting legs. While he may not enjoy fighting, if his friends, or others, are in danger he will do whatever he can to help them. His protectiveness over those important to him make him a force to be reckoned with, showing a more single-minded, aggressive side of Hunk that brings out his inner warrior. Such as when the team was going "space mad" and Hunk shows how brave, and selfless he has become, when he attempts to fight off a giant space creature on his own to buy time for the others to escape, as he is the only one who is able to make his bayard work.

Hunk can also be stubborn when he feels he's in the right. When the others were more than willing to just trust Rolo and Nyma, Hunk was suspicious and continually made it known he didn't trust them. He was also the voice of reason in not letting them on the ship, bringing up the previous disaster from leaving the Castle open to the Arusians. When it was revealed that the two had, unsurprisingly, betrayed the team, Hunk wasted no time in reminding the other Paladin's that he had known all along, very much putting on the "I told you so!!" act.

These particular traits are reinforced throughout the rest of the series, with Hunk gradually becoming a more confident, and capable paladin. Of course, that doesn't stop him from having his moments of nervousness or anxiety during a tense situation. While Hunk is the first to point out how scary or crazy something might be, he will also follow orders and fight with all his might to protect his team, and anyone else they may he fighting with or for.

As the seasons go on, Hunk begins to show his capabilities of becoming the team diplomat. After Shiro vanishes during their big fight with Zarkon in his mech suit, Hunk is shown helping to ease tension amongst various alien species the team are trying to recruit into their newly budding coalition. By calming bickering voices down, and offering them special food he has made, he is able to get them into a more calm, peaceful state to talk. However, he is also able to be more forceful in getting others to join his side if the situation calls for it. Such as when the team was working to help fix the shield on a Galra controlled resource station. When the Galra commanders began arguing about accepting Voltron's help, Hunk used the knowledge he had recently gained on Galra history to remind the commanders of why it was in their best interest to accept Voltron's aid.

Abilities:
Hunk is both a smart and strong cookie. His intelligence is one of the highest on the team next to Pidge and in sheer strength he is listed as the strongest. Hunk has no trouble suddenly talking about complex mathematical and scientific formulas or calculations. He was able to notice that the energy signature Pidge and Keith had been tracking wasn't one native to Earth and then built a device from random pieces of tech and scrap to track it down.

It's also shown that he is able to work and tinker with high-tech alien equipment with very little trouble. Not to mention his talent in coming up with new food recipes using alien ingredients, able to make it not only safe for human consumption, but have it be tasty as well. When it comes to strength, Hunk is able to wield a large, heavy hand canon with efficiency, while carrying a grown adult man on his shoulders with ease. He’s also seen moving and handling ship parts that probably aren’t too light weight either.

Alignment:
Piphron - Hunk at his core seems to operate a lot on his ability to gauge other's trustworthiness. Despite not knowing most of the others on Team Voltron for very long, he is quick to be open, and friendly, with them. On the other hand, when dealing with Rolo and Nyma, his gut told him to be wary of their intentions, and he was proven right when they tried to steal the Blue Lion. He also deals with varying degrees of doubts, and nervousness with his team, but ultimately willing to trust the plans and decisions they come to.

Other:
Being pulled from his current canon point, Hunk would arrive in the Galaxy Garrison cadet uniform. He will NOT have his Paladin uniform or bayard.

He will also be returning with his original memories of his time in Empatheias.

As he turned off the oven and waved a towel over the steaming cookies, Hunk smiled at how delicious they looked. It was his first batch using the ovens in the bakery since his return. Even though he remembered all their little quirks and hot spots, he was still a tiny bit nervous about using them again. Thankfully, the worrying had been for naught as the cookies turned out perfect.

Setting the tray down to cool he busied himself with cleaning up the little bit of mess that remained on the wooden baking bench. As he worked he thought about who to share all the cookies with. Keith, Lance, Allura, Shiro and Coran were the obvious first to come to mind. Kolivan might like one. Then there was of course Kevin. It was too bad they wouldn't keep until they found a way to rescue his parents though.

Except his parents weren't in this world. They were back home. Still in the clutches of the Galra. Hunk's hands stilled and squeezed down on the towel in their grip. He had been trying not to think about his parents in this place. There was nothing he could do for them here, except hope that at some point he would be able to rescue them in the future back home.

Hunk tried to blink back the tears prickling at the corner of his eyes, but it was useless. Anytime he thought of them he couldn't keep the need to cry at bay. Part of him felt guilty for being happy to be back in Verens. Even knowing time was frozen in his own world, and nothing worse would happen to them didn't help. The space around him began to grow dark and as the first tears slipped free he heard the gentle klink of something clicking shut.

"Oh no..." Hunk groaned as he straightened himself up. Surrounding him completely were the dark, somewhat opaque facets of a crystal. Pressing a hand against it he felt his frustration grow even though he knew he needed to calm himself down. If he wanted the barrier to go away he needed to think of something happier.

Something like how nice it had been to watch Keith and Gordon play tug-o-war with one of the kitchen towels. The way Keith's face had gone from determined struggle to cheerfully smug as he wrestled the towel free. How Gordon had cried in dismay and tackled Keith to the floor to reclaim her "toy" from him. It was such a simple, silly moment, but it had brought Hunk such joy to see it.

And it was enough to break through the gloomy crystal barrier.

Breathing a sigh of relief as the warm, flour dusted light of the bakery washed over him, Hunk knew it was probably time to try dunamis training again. Especially when he looked over at the cookies and saw they had turned black and crumbled apart on the tray.
